Technology Entering the Classroom:)

Attention Parents...

Starting after Christmas Break we will begin a digital storytelling series. Your student will be able to make their very own movie! KK Cherney, our wonderful Media Specialist, has shown me how to use a new program and I can't wait to introduce it to the students. If you would like a copy of the video that your student made, please send in a DVD-R and I will make you a copy. I can't wait to show them all the stuff they can learn with technology! If you have any questions or would like to help out please shoot me an email!

Christmas Play Update!

Here's an update...
Kids are doing great with the play!!! Please remember that they are to wear a white shirt and nice jeans. We will provide the rest of the costume for the kids. Our "Dress Rehearsal" is Thursday morning at 10:00am. Parents are welcome to come. Seating will be limited as we will be performing for Kindergarten and 3rd Grade. Our performance starts at 7:00pm Thursday night. Kids need to be here by 6:30pm. That will give parents plenty of time to get a seat. The crowd will be large so be prepared. If you signed up to bring juice or cookies there will be a table set up in the back to collect those. Donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you for all your help to make this play a success!

Time for the Holidays!

The holidays are almost here. Which means that the play is also here. Here are the words for the songs. Please encourage your student to practice every day! We will be practicing on the stage the week after Thanksgiving. We want to make sure that all students know the words for these practices. To print the words from here you have to copy and paste them into a word document and print them from their. They will also be up on the website as soon as it is working properly. Enjoy!

I Need a Christmas Vacation

Christmas day is almost here
Time to spread some holiday cheer
Haven’t had a holiday in almost a year
I need a vacation now
Decorations are all about
School is great, but I’m all burned out
One more day makes me wanna shout
I need a vacation now!

I need a Christmas vacation
I need a holiday
I need a Christmas vacation
Gotta go outside and play! ALL DAY!
I need a Christmas vacation
Please hear me when I say
I need a Christmas vacation
Come on, Santa, take me away

Time to ride on an open sleigh
Goin’ skiin’ every single day
It’s a homework free holiday
I need a vacation now
My family goes to Mexico
Grandma will be coming from Idaho
I’ll eat with kinfolk I don’t even know
I need a vacation now

I need a Christmas vacation
I need a holiday
I need a Christmas vacation
Gotta go outside and play! ALL DAY!
I need a Christmas vacation
Please hear me when I say
I need a Christmas vacation
Come on, Santa, take me away

Tonight we do our Christmas play
Politically correct in every way
But we gotta be done by Christmas day
I need a vacation now
(Spoken solos)
I need a Christmas vacation
NOW
RIGHT NOW

A Winter’s Tale

What do we all liveth for in the winter when it’s forty below?
On midwinter break, we ache for flakes
Flake and flakes of snow

(Boys)
Snow, Hey, Ho, How we love
Snow, Hey, Ho, How we love snow

(Girls)
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no

Oh what a day, oh what a sight
Wonderful world, all dressed in white
How I love staying out: love playing out in the snow
Look here it comes, just watch it fall
We’ll have a white Christmas after all
How I love going out: Oh it’s blowing out in the snow

We can ride a toboggan and ski down a hill
Go on a sleigh ride, o boy, what a thrill
Glide and slide on figure skates
Hurry, don’t be late

(Boys)
Snow, Hey, Ho, How we love
Snow, Hey, Ho, How we love snow

(Girls)
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no

Oh how I love each little flake
Snow is the icing on the cake
How we’ll be heading out
Fun sledding out in the snow

(Boys)
Snow, Hey, Ho, How we love
Snow, Hey, Ho, How we love snow

(Girls)
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

How can this be? Oh no, it’s not!
All of this snow isn’t so hot
What lousy luck! Look how we’re stuck
In all this snow!
Please make it quit: please make it stop
These aren’t just flakes it’s a bumper crop
Please go away. Don’t make us stay
Look at all this snow!

All of my plans have been put on hold
Who can go out when it’s this freezing cold
Snow can ruin everything
Let’s just jump to spring

(Boys)
Snow, Hey, Ho, How we love
Snow, Hey, Ho, How we love snow

(Girls)
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no

This is our tale some tragedy
That old King Lear’s got nothing for me
One fatal flaw: I’ll never thaw cause I’m stuck in the snow

(Boys)
Snow, oh, no, there’s too much
Show, oh, please, I have to go
Hey, ho, there’s too much snow, snow, snow

(Girls)
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny, no
Nonny nonny, nonny nonny, nonny nonny,
There’s too much snow, snow, snow

Christmas Fiesta

In Old Mexico each holiday: You’ll hear a familiar ring
The people dance: Mariachi Play: And this is what they sing

The holidays are beginning: My favorite time of the year
Everybody is grinning: the day is almost here
I have a special requesta: of each and everyone
Let’s have a special Fiesta: a holiday in the sun

Christmas Fiesta: winter in the sun
Christmas Fiesta: fun for everyone
Cabo San Lucas or Acapulco Bay
Christmas Fiesta, it’s a perfect holiday

If the temperature still is freezing: let me tell you, ya oughta
Stop your sniffling and sneezing, join us in Las Posadas
So Santa, this is my order: I’m sending it to you
A Christmas south of the border: I hope you make it all come true

Christmas Fiesta: winter in the sun
Christmas Fiesta: fun for everyone
Cabo San Lucas or Acapulco Bay
Christmas Fiesta, it’s a perfect holiday

(Spoken)
So if you’re feeling depression: celebrate Las Posadas
Or if you’re feeling aggression: take it out on our piƱata

Oh Christmas Fiesta: winter in the sun
Christmas Fiesta: fun for everyone
Cabo San Lucas or Acapulco Bay
Christmas Fiesta, it’s a perfect holiday

Santa Claus be There for Me

This year there’ll be no holly
This year there’ll be no joy
This year there’s nothin’ jolly
For this little boy or girl
The snow keeps comin’ faster
Oh, how in the world can this be
This is total disaster
Will Sant Claus be there for me

Santa, oh Santa, I sing this song for you
Santa, oh Santa, won’t you please, oh please come through

Dear Santa...
Ya know I’ve always been faithful; and Santa I’ve always been true
Every single Christmas, I’ve always been there for you
But this year might be different when you visit my Christmas tree
Santa, I may not be there, but will you please be there for me
I’m down on my knees

Santa, oh Santa, I sing this song for you
Santa, oh Santa, won’t you please, oh please come through

So listen to my story
It’s sad but it is true
I’m stuck at school this Christmas
With nothing but the blues
Saint Nick I promise I’ll get there
I’ll get home ASAP
Santa please think of my welfare
Ya gotta be there for me
Oh, Santa please hear my plea
Santa please be there for me
For me

Christmas with My Friends

Winter days are shorter now
Fires and candles glow
Little children wonder how
Santa Claus will know
Who’s been naughty
Who’s been nice
Is it all pretend
I believe, this Christmas Eve, I’ll share it with my friends
My friends...

Holidays are everywhere
In your heart and mind
Sparkling in the winter air
Magic you will find
Hand in hand and side by side
With love that never ends
Let it be just you and me and Christmas with my friends
My friends....

I’m so glad this Christmas Eve
To share it all with you
In my heart I do believe
Wishes do come true
I’ll remember through the years
Each Christmas card I send
Love to all as I recall, this Christmas with my friends

I’ll remember through the years
Each Christmas card I send
Love to all as I recall this Christmas with my friends

"We're Going to the Zoo"

Hey Parents!

Oh my goodness! October holds so much for us in the classroom. I apologize for not getting up to date with all of this. Hopefully everything will start slowing down. Thank you for all the parents who have met with us this month. Our students are doing great! I wanted to remind you of just a few things that are still coming this month.

1. Carnival of Dreams
This is an exciting time of Book It Bag It as the students trick-or-treat through the halls of The Magical Chets Creek Elementary. We still need candy donations for this.
We are also hosting the "Needle in a Haystack" game outside from 6pm-9pm. We also still need volunteers to help "man the booth".
If you are interested in either of these pleas send an email, a note, or phone us to let us know.

2. Literacy Pumpkin Festival
Our students have been working very hard this year to make our pumpkins great. Come and view our pumpkins at the Carnival of Dreams. Thanks to Mrs. Levtov and all the parents that have helped to make it look great!!!

3. Halloween
Please be safe as you and your kids go trick-or-treating. Unfortunately it is not early release that Wednesday but you will still have plenty of time!

4. Book Bonanza
The book fair was a huge success this week at school. Thank you parents for helping to support the school with buying books.

Thanks for being so supportive of your students. I will be sure to keep on top of this and the website. Watch for pictures of all the hoopla here at school next week!

New "Magical Bag of Reading"

Hey Parents!

Can you believe it is already October? During the first full month of school I have learned about as much as your student has. I feel the need to make a few changes to our “Magical Bag of Reading” (aka book-in-a-bag).
Starting today your student will be bringing home a new bag. In this bag you will find 1 or 2 books. The books are small and a little longer than the others that they were bringing home. Students will have to opportunity to switch these books out every day when they arrive at school. They know that they can only switch out a book they have finished reading and have written down in their log. Please make sure that your student is recording everything he/she reads on the log. This bag will have a new log in it that needs to stay in place. I will check the log periodically to record their books on a big chart.
The old “Magical Bag of Reading” will stay in the classroom for our Reading Workshop time. Your student will switch those books once a week according to a schedule we follow in class. This will help me make sure every student has a book at his/her desk throughout the day.
If you feel that your student does not need the take home bag please feel free to jot me a note and that bag can stay at school also. The important part is that your student reads every night for at least 15 minutes from books that are on his/her comprehension level.
Please do not hesitate to email or call with any concerns this new procedure may create.

Release forms :)

Do you want to see pictures of your kids on our website and blog? Make sure to turn in the pink form to release the use of their picture. If you need a new one let me know. I have extra copies:)

Main Street Express is Back!

The field trip was a huge success. The students were even able to meet the characters during lunch time. I will be posting pictures soon! One of our students was part of the show. When we asked here what planet she was in the Solar System, she simply stated, "I was the 2nd planet from the sun." She did a great job. Many other students from other classes participated in the play and overall it was a great time. The weather held long enough for us to get there and get home. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to take your kids!

Main Street Express Moving Out!

Main Street Express is pulling out tomorrow!
Parents, please remember to pack a lunch in a disposable bag for the field trip tomorrow. We are so excited about the play we will see. Please remind your students of the proper behavior in a theatre. We should be returning to school around 1pm. Have your student wear tennis shoes or closed toe shoes. Also they may want to bring a sweater. Theatres are usually chilly. Can't wait to get this train moving!

Calling all Spellers!

Calling all spellers...
This week your student received a spelling list with 10 spelling words. For our spelling tests we will have 10 words from the list your student receives on Mondays. Next week the list will contain 20 words and 10 will be chosen at random. We will also have 5 words from other activities completed in the classroom. Your student will be familiar with these words and be able to spell them easily. Please email me if you have any questions about spelling

Welcome to Information Central

Welcome to Information Central.
This blog will help you along the way as we cruise down Main Street. This will be a great source of information for everything from homework to seeing what we do in the classroom. Pictures and possibly even videos will be posted.

Please check this every day or every other day.

We also have a class website. I will post homework there and other handouts. That will also be a good place for information. Watch for a letter going home that has the address and password.
